Life is quite the journey. Most of us meander through in search of happiness. For some, it seems to come effortlessly. For others, it is an endless struggle. I believe that the desire for happiness is the common thread that binds us all together. Because of this, we seek connection. We seek quality relationships to help us feel understood. We seek connection to hold our hands as we trek along the path.
I am a big advocate of personal development. If we observe successful people, we will see that they are on a continuous journey of self-discovery, self-improvement, and personal development. Learning never stops. There is hunger for progress. There is consistency in the process.
I have learned more about life, relationships, and myself in the past three years than ever before, thanks to personal development. My discoveries have uncovered a personal need for authenticity, a shield for vulnerability, and a belief that I am not good enough. These “false” beliefs have been extremely limiting in my life, in all aspects.
Do you ever feel like life is just harder than it should be? That there is struggle for no good reason? That staying in bed seems like the best option for the day?
None of these thoughts set us up for a great day.
Well, my practices in personal development (to date) have lead me to this… there are 3 Things We Must Do every day to get us closer to the happiness we seek.
#1 – Express Gratitude
Begin the day with this. Whether you sit quietly for a few moments and think or pull out a journal and reflect a bit more, take the first moments of the day to establish an attitude of GRATITUDE. There is always something to be grateful for. We don’t have to search very far or deep. Simply acknowledging our breath is something to be thankful for, every day. Without it, well…
#2 – Be Present
There is a reason we do what we do. Maybe the reason is grand with aspirations to change the world. Or, the aim for the day is to simply help one person smile brighter. When we act with purpose, we “feel the Flow.” This is when we have created an undistracted state in which we wouldn’t want to do anything else. In other words, be present.
#3 – Have Fun
To be happy, do things that make you happy. This is common sense, but hey, common sense is not always common practice. Take time every day to do things that move your soul. Again, we don’t have to move mountains here. If you know “it” makes you smile, do more of “it!”
That’s it! Start right now! This very moment! Simple.
Be true. Be YOU. Believe in you, and happiness will follow.
